Time on posts is three hours earlier than EST
If anyone knows how to fix the time recorded on posts, please let me know.
Not a vacation...yet.
The month of May has been fun with a fair amount of work on the boat and completing logistics to be away for 3 or 4 months.
Getting used to a different schedule, or no schedule, takes a little time.
Someone said that now we can stay up late and sleep in as long as we want. But one of the ironies of life is that once you get to the point where you don't need to have a schedule you are tired at 10:00 and wide awake at 6:00 AM. Cruising encourages that schedule. At 6:00 or 7:00 AM we're ready to lift the anchor and go.
So the vacation hasn't started. Yet.

Completing items on the list and finding more
Less than one week to go. We're starting to watch the weather, which means we're getting closer.
The list is shorter. A few items have found their way on the list, like an outboard engine that won't run, a head (aka toilet) that won't pump (lots of fun, not), a generator heat exchanger with corrosion, fixed the propane stove, etc.
These are all items that, a few years ago, I had no idea how to fix. Now I know just enough to be dangerous. But I'm making progress. I think.

Marine units and depth sounders
Our depth sounder is going, according to Bernie, "tango uniform". It reads great most of the time, and that's the problem, since a depth sounder that tells you the depth when you are aground is technically accurate, but not very helpful.
We learned yesterday that fixing the depth sounder is going to be about one "marine unit", more or less. We're hoping for less.
Since our boat is aground in 4 feet of water, that's about $250 per foot.
The list is getting longer...

Work the list
Project management is a horrible habit. Like PTSD (I am told), the project plan can wake you from a sound sleep in a cold sweat. Work the list.
And we have a list. Getting ready to cruise on a boat requires a list, of things to buy mostly, but mechanical things too. Our list started out with 50 or 60 items, 40 of which have been moved to "optional" and 10 or 20 we hope to actually complete.
At the top of the list is Patti's favorite: "inner peace". We'll see.

Welcome to our 2014 Cruising Blog
We are just getting started. A lot of things to do, including setting up this blog. We hope you enjoy.
